A push for conservation as the endangered chimpanzee was born at Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo welcomed its latest arrival, a baby western chimpanzee born on December 9 after an eight-month gestation. Great ape experts say the newcomer is healthy and spent his first few weeks bonding with his mother and the zoo’s remaining 22 western chimpanzees. The chimpanzee is born with a white tuft of hair on its back and remains into adulthood to signal to others in the group to be nice to them.
