Actor Ryan Grantham, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” actor, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his mother

Actor Ryan Grantham, known for his short role in “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and appearances in “Riverdale,” has been sentenced to life in prison for shooting his mother.

Grantham, 24, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the 2020 killing of Barbara White, 64, while she was playing the piano at their home in British Columbia. CBC reported that he would be eligible for parole after 14 years.

Grantham is known for a number of roles during his career, including the 2010 film “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” in which he played a student portraying a bush in an adaptation of “The Wizard of Oz.”

He also appeared in “Riverdale” as Jeffery Augustine, a teenager who hits and kills Fred Andrews with his father’s truck.

Grantham admitted to the murder in a GoPro video and displayed his mother’s body, according to evidence presented in court.

Prosecutors said Grantham left the crime scene with Molotov cocktails and firearms with a plan to kill Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Ottawa. CBC reported that he also considered committing a mass shooting before surrendering to police.

Defense attorney Chris Johnson said the actor, who has been in prison since his arrest, was expecting Judge Kathleen Kerr’s sentence, CTV reported.

“I think he’s very worried about the whole thing. He’s a fairly small person, and to go into the prison system, I’m sure it’s a scary and stressful idea for him,” Johnson said.
