After an unusually warm start to the season, snow is causing traffic jams in parts of Croatia and Austria

Snow covered roads in Croatia, southern Austria and Slovenia.

Croatia has announced a ban on trucks with trailers in the mountain regions of Lika and Gorski Kotar and has also reduced speed limits, closed lanes and stretches of the A1 and A6 motorways.

There were heavy rains in the southern parts of Croatia which were affected by the warm southerly winds of Scirocco.

In southern Austria, fresh snowfall of between 10 and 20 cm caused drifts half a meter, downing trees and disrupting power supplies. More than 10,000 families were without electricity and roads were closed.

The Zell Pfarre region, near the border with Slovenia, has seen some of the highest snowfall rates.

In Slovenia itself, the morning rush hour in Ljubljana turned into a grinding hour as dozens of trucks got stuck on snow-covered roads.
