Asheville: Suspects break into restaurant

Police are asking for help identifying a “cat thief” who they say broke into a restaurant and left robbery tools behind. Asheville police said she was called around 4:30 a.m. Monday to a restaurant in the 290 neighborhood of the Smoky Park Highway. When the officers arrived, they said they noticed that the back door to the store had been forced open. No one was found inside, but officers said they determined the burglar attempted to break into the safe and, after failed attempts, left robbery tools behind. Investigators managed to obtain video surveillance, along with other physical evidence, and are asking for the public’s help in identifying anyone involved in the break-in. The cat thief is someone who is skilled at getting in and out of a burglarized place without attraction.
