Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping comes at a time of “significant global uncertainty”.
“We’re facing the challenges of coronavirus and recovery, and we’re dealing with climate change as well as supply chain shocks,” Albanese said in the meeting’s opening remarks.
As we manage these challenges, we need to work towards stability, prosperity and peace in the Indo-Pacific region.
“It is an international order governed by international law and the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations,” said Mr. Albanese.
“We had our differences and Australia is not going to solve our interests or our values.”
This is the first meeting between the two leaders to be held at the G20 summit in Bali.
