Billy Joel performs a touching tribute to Jeff Beck at Madison Square Garden

The “Vienna” singer took time out from his New York City concert to appreciate the contributions of Beck, the late guitarist for The Yardbirds who died Tuesday after “suddenly developing bacterial meningitis,” according to his reps. He was 78 years old.

Joel, who described Beck’s death as “end of an eraOn Twitter, he told the MSG audience that he “always loved” the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.

“It was the best,” said the “Piano Man” singer, adding that he “couldn’t let the night go by without doing something for Jeff.”

Joel and his band later performed Alabama’s “Going Down”, a song covered by the Jeff Beck Group in 1972.
