Cosmos Maya: Anish Mehta is stepping down as CEO of Cosmos Maya

Anish Mehta, CEO of one of India’s leading animation studios, Cosmos Maya, has laid down his papers after spending 10 years working with the company.

He will announce his new project later this year.

Mehta, who has been instrumental in expanding the studio from a 30-member team to a 1,200+ animation force, has been the CEO and minority shareholder of Cosmos-Maya since 2012.

During his tenure, the company has grown in four different business areas globally and has recorded revenue and EBITDA growth of more than 25-fold in the past 10 years. Globally, Mehta has led efforts towards co-production with other European and global players, who have been able to sell in more than 100 countries worldwide.

He also led the studio’s process of creating the IP for original Indian animation with the release of “Motu Patlu”. The studio claims to have created more than 5,000 hours of children’s animated content across more than 20 shows, maintaining a market share of over 50% of the kids and family original content space in India for a decade.

The studio’s major clients include – Nickelodeon, Disney, Cartoon Network, Sony, Amazon Prime Video, Disney + Hotstar, Netflix, Discovery Kids, Facebook and YouTube.

Under his leadership, the studio has attracted organized investment in the business. He has been instrumental in attracting private equity investors to the Indian animation business, first with KKR-backed Emerald Media and later with TPG’s NewQuest Capital Partners.

He also led the initiative to build the company’s network on YouTube, WowKidz with 35 channels, which has achieved more than 80 million subscribers, and 41 billion views worldwide across more than 10 languages ​​in a short span of 5 years.
