Crash Crash: Police say a family of 5 is in critical condition after the truck veered off the track and crashed into them at Beechnut in La Roche.

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – A family of five, including a three-month-old baby, is in critical condition after a car veered off its lane and crashed into family members waiting to cross the street in southwest Houston, police said.

Two vehicles were involved in the accident at about 8 a.m. in the 7900 building in La Roche, Beechnut, according to HPD Midwest Division Commander Zachary Baker.

“It was a chain reaction where one of the vehicles left the road and crashed into the family,” Baker said.

SkyEye was at the scene and took a video of the vehicles – a gray truck overturned, and a gray SUV.

The SUV ran over a stop sign in La Roche Lane, crossed a Beechnut, and collided with the truck that was dropping off in Beechnut, according to Harris County Vehicle Crime Division Chief Sean Terry. That’s when Terry said the truck overturned and hit the family.

Baker said one of the drivers was in both vehicles.

The two adults, a mother and a relative, and three children were standing around the corner waiting to cross the street when they were allegedly beaten.

There is a baby aged 3 months, 16 months and 3 years old. All five are expected to survive, according to Terry.

HPD Motor Vehicle Crime Division investigators are on the scene. At this time, it’s unclear if the poisoning was a factor, Baker said.

Courtney Fisher of ABC13 was at the scene and saw a man handcuffed and placed in the back of an HPD. He was cooperating with the police and did not appear drunk. His relationship to the accident is unclear.
