Newly discovered transcripts from Donald Trump’s testimony in the E. Jane Carroll case show that the former president mistook Carroll and his ex-wife, Marla Maples, for a photo.

Transcripts show that during his testimony in October 2022, Trump was shown a black-and-white photo of him interacting with several people, including his then-wife Ivana and Carol and her then-husband.

Showing the photo, Trump said: “I don’t know who – it’s Marla.” “This is Marla, yeah. This is my wife,” he says when asked to explain.

Then Trump’s attorney, Alina Heba, stepped in and said, “No, this is Carol,” according to the transcript.

Carroll sued Trump in 2019 for defamation after he denied her rape allegations. She filed a second lawsuit against Trump in November under a new law that allows her to sue for battery even though the statute of limitations on the crime has passed.

Trump has denied sexually assaulting the former magazine columnist and said he never pressured a woman to have sex with him, according to testimony unsealed last week.

In the transcript of his testimony, Trump repeated earlier comments that he did not know Carol and that she was not his type, a claim that could be called into question after his response to being shown the photo.

Trump said that while it wasn’t “politically correct” to say she wasn’t his type, he said he had to stand up for himself. He added that it was not intended as an insult.

When asked if he had ever kissed a woman without her consent, Trump said, “Well, I don’t think… I can’t think of any complaints. But no. I mean, I don’t think so.” He also denied touching a woman’s breasts or buttocks.

Carroll’s attorney Roberta Kaplan asked Trump, “Have you ever pressured a woman to have sex with you?”

“The answer is no. But you may have some people, like your customer, who are willing to lie.”
