Donald Trump’s Twitter account may be growing rapidly, but despite Elon Musk bringing back the account, the former US president has so far shown little interest in returning to the platform.

Musk had said in May that he would reverse Twitter’s ban on Trump, whose account was suspended after last year’s attack on the US Capitol.

Mr Trump’s account, which had been banned from Twitter, reappeared on the platform moments after Musk announced he had lifted the 22-month suspension for incitement to violence.

The most recent tweet on Mr Trump’s Twitter account was from January 2021.

Mr. Musk tweeted “Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” a Latin phrase that roughly means “the voice of the people is the voice of God.”

It is not clear if reinstating his account will cause Mr Trump to be active on the site again.

He seemed less anxious than earlier in the day.
“I don’t see any reason for that,” the former president said when asked if he planned to return to Twitter by a committee at the Republican Jewish Alliance’s annual leadership meeting.
He said he would stick with his new platform, Truth Social, the app developed by his startup Trump Media & Technology Group, which he said was doing “extremely well.”

Mr. Trump’s Twitter account, which had nearly 89 million followers, had less than a million when it was brought back on Sunday, but had already gained more than 600,000 within an hour of being reactivated.

Musk has said the account will not be reinstated until a content oversight board of people with “widely diverse viewpoints” convenes.
He also said that Twitter will not reinstate a banned user until there is a “clear process for doing so”.

But this week Mr. Musk brought back comedian Kathy Griffin, which violated its new rule against impersonation without indicating that it was a satirical account.
Trump’s non-attendance may ease concerns among major advertisers, already unnerved by Musk’s radical reshaping of Twitter.
He cut the workforce in half and severely reduced the company’s trust and safety team responsible for preventing the spread of misinformation and harmful content.
A number of major companies have stopped advertising on the site as they monitor how the platform handles hate speech.
