Dutch Business Confidence December 2022

Business confidence rose to 3.3 in December from 3.0 in November. December’s result was the best reading since August. As such, the index remained above the zero threshold, indicating optimism among companies.

The print reflected more optimism about future production. However, producers were more pessimistic about their order positions and their current inventory situation. Producer confidence in the electrotechnical, machinery and transportation equipment industries remained at high levels and increased further in December. Meanwhile, producers in the petroleum, paper, and printing industries were again more pessimistic.

Members of the consensus forecast committee see fixed investment expanding 0.0% in 2023, 0.3 percentage points lower than last month’s estimate, and 2.0% in 2024.
