Economic activity in Peru September 2022

Economic activity grew by 1.7% compared to the same month a year earlier in September, which was a deterioration from August’s 1.7% increase. This figure came on the back of weak activity in the trade sector. In addition, activity in the construction sector has lost pace. Finally, activity in the manufacturing sector declined at a sharper rate, while mining and hydrocarbon production contracted at a weaker pace than in August.

On a monthly basis, economic activity grew by 0.1% in September, matching the increase in August. Meanwhile, the trend has indicated a downward trend, with the average annual growth of economic activity hitting a one-year low of 3.0% in September, down from 3.7% in August.

Members of the LatinFocus Consensus forecast committee estimate that GDP will expand 3.1% in 2023, unchanged from last month’s forecast, and grow 3.0% in 2024.
