Florence Poe is getting very anxious again in the chilling ‘Wonderland’ trailer

With “Don’t Worry Baby” (almost, almost, please make it stop) behind us, Florence Pugh has another much-anticipated psychological drama on her hands with “Wonderful” on Netflix.

The film, by Oscar-winning Chilean director Sebastian Lelio, explores the phenomenon of Fasting Girls, a Victorian-era event in which young girls claim to survive long periods without eating due to divine intervention.

Based on “Room” author Emma Donoghue’s novel of the same name, “The Wonder” follows English nurse Lip Wright (Pugh), who is summoned to a deeply religious rural Irish community in 1862, 13 years after the end of the Great Famine.

There, she is tasked with keeping tabs on Anna O’Donnell (Kella Lord Cassidy), an 11-year-old who says she hasn’t eaten in four months, and lives only on “manna from heaven.”

“While Anna’s health is rapidly deteriorating,” the summary reads, “Lieb is determined to expose the truth, challenging the faith of a society that prefers to remain a believer.”

The trailer released Tuesday promises another Oscar-worthy role by Pugh, who struggles to save a child’s life in the face of authoritarian leaders where issues of religious faith and science collide with disturbing results.

“I’m here to find out the truth,” Pugh’s character says in the clip, as tensions between the nurse and local villagers reach boiling point. “Will you help me?”

Unlike a certain other project, Pugh apparently has no qualms about promoting this movie, posting the trailer to her Instagram this week with a glowing caption.

“And here we have it,” she wrote. “Incredibly excited to share this trailer. Thanks to all of those who are patiently waiting, here is our baby. Our adorable little movie.”

Earlier this year, the Oscar nominee spoke about his experience filming the movie.

“We’ve been cruising around the Irish Hills for the past week and it really was a great start to a beautiful and exciting movie,” she wrote on Instagram in August. “What a story to have our teeth stuck in, what a crew beside him and great director Sebastian Lelio to lead us! This is going to be fun.”

Tom Burke, Niamh Algar, Elaine Cassidy, Toby Jones, Ciaran Hinds, Dermot Crowley, Brian F. O’Bearn and David Wilmot also star in the film, which will hit theaters November 2 before hitting Netflix on November 16.
