It’s absurd to say the word “picnic” is racially offensive: Richards

Author and lyrics writer Kell Richards says the racially offensive word “picnic” stems from the claim that people in America would witness lynchings and “eat with them.”

“But the fact that people were eating when they were watching something really horrible doesn’t change the word ‘picnic,'” Chris Smith told Sky News host.

“It’s not racist – it’s ridiculous to say it is and anyone who says it is simply wrong.”

Mr Richards said the word “came into English from French – it originally meant an outdoor meal where everyone brought some food”.
