A young boy’s match-thriller is believed to have set two houses on fire in Tawau today.
In the 8 a.m. incident, it was learned that the boy had placed pieces of burning paper under a wooden cabinet in a room which then caught fire, and the flames spread to other parts of the house along Lorong Haji Sundo, Batu 2, Jalan. Apas reports, The Star Online.
The child’s older brother had seen the burning treasury and immediately alerted the others, who then notified the authorities.
Tawau Fire Station Chief Julius John Stephen said that when firefighters arrived, the fire spread throughout the area, including the house next door, which he also confirmed had been destroyed.
He said they were able to bring the fire under control at 9.57 a.m. and operations ceased at 11.10 a.m. after firefighters made sure there were no other dangerous items at the site.
