MX Player was ahead of Amazon Prime Video, which came in fourth, according to the State of Mobile 2023 report by Data.ai, formerly App Annie.
The report also highlighted that MX Player was the most downloaded app in India, surpassing Hotstar, ZEE5, Jio TV and Jio Cinema.
It was the third most searched keyword in the iOS App Store in 2022, after Netflix and Hotstar.
MX Player has a global reach in more than 17 markets including UAE, USA, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Maldives.
The platform said that MX Original series like Campus Diaries, Aashram Season 3, and Dharavi Bank performed well. Commenting on the report, Nikhil Gandhi, COO of MX Player said, “2022 was a defining year for MX Player for many reasons. According to the report, 255 billion new apps were downloaded last year, registering an 11% year-on-year growth. It said users spend five hours a day on these apps. Android phone users have spent 4.1 trillion hours on apps.
The report stated that users spent $167 billion on app stores, while users spent $336 billion on mobile in 2022.
