Austrian actor Florian Tichtmeister has been charged with possession of child pornography.
In a statement, the cast of the movie “Corsage”, dedicated to Empress Sisi, said that they were shocked by the revelation of the man who plays the role of Emperor Franz Joseph.
Competing to represent Austria at the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Film category, “Corsage” will be deprogrammed by the Cineplexx cinema chain, which operates 400 cinemas in 12 countries.
The Austrian state broadcaster ORF, which co-financed the feature film, also announced the withdrawal of all programs in which the actor appears.
His attorney, Michael Ramey, said he intended to plead guilty.
“Florian Testmeister will plead guilty in the criminal proceedings,” he said.
“He has always cooperated fully with the authorities, and has been undergoing psychiatric treatment for two years, which has allowed him to work on his mental problems that led him to have the files in question.”
“Therefore, he takes full responsibility for his actions, but he maintains that this is a purely numerical crime and that he did not harm anyone.”
Corsage’s producers say the shooting took place before the “first rumours” began “in fall 2021”.
The testmeister is scheduled to appear in court on February 8. He faces up to two years in prison.
