Queensland communities are isolated as swampy roads of floodwaters

Flood waters swept away roads in Queensland on Tuesday, January 17, after several days of torrential rain fell across the central coast of the Sunshine State. The Met Office said Queensland’s central coast remained under a severe weather warning on Tuesday. Media reported that flood waters left residents isolated in some communities. Local media reported that motorists were stranded on the Bruce Highway near Proserpine, some for two days, and dozens fell asleep in their cars. Some Queenslanders have taken refuge in emergency housing. Video filmed by Tasha Joyce shows flooding on the Peak Downs Highway in Eton. Credit: Tasha Joyce via Storyful
