The owner of Christmas Story House explains that the house will not be closed

CLEVELAND — After the surprise announcement this week that the Christmas Story home is now for sale, the owner made it clear Tuesday morning that the property and museum will remain open for tours.

“We are not closing our doors,” owner Brian Jones said in a statement. “We are open and will remain open now and in the future.” “Business as usual. Come visit us.”

Despite the sale, the property’s Cleveland Landmark status will keep it in the public eye.

“Several years ago, we designated it as a landmark to make sure it would be protected no matter who owned it,” Jones said.

According to Jones, once word got out about the list, the city of Cleveland reached out to him with a reminder of their status:

The actual home at 3159 West 11th Street is a designated Cleveland Landmark that must be listed. Exterior modifications to structure and site must pass through the Cleveland Landmarks Commission for a Certificate of Suitability. Changes can include replacement of doors, windows, roof, paint, porch, etc. .”

After 20 years of ownership, Jones said it was time for him to move on.

“It has been an honor to be an agent for such a fine piece of Americana. All founders need to finally move forward so their creation can reach its fullest potential,” he said. “There are so many wonderful opportunities to make A Christmas Story House & Museum an even bigger experience for everyone. The future of A Christmas Story House & Museum is going to be great.”
