The unit falls off a semi-truck, and the car flattens into Fairfield

Butler County, Ohio (WXIX) – A crash closed the Dixie Freeway in both directions on Tuesday afternoon.

It happened around 3:26 p.m. under a rail tunnel on Dixie Highway/Route 4 on St. Clair Street.

A semi towing a portable storage unit hit the underpass, causing the storage unit to fall out of the trailer and crash into a Ford Fusion, according to the Fairfield Police Department.

There were two people inside the car. EMS transported them to Ft. Hamilton Hospital with injuries described by police as “serious”.

Half of the driver was not injured.

The Dixie Highway between Simmys Road and Corwin Street remains closed as of 8:30 p.m., and police are advising drivers to find an alternate route.

The crash scene in Fairfield is off limits to Hamilton. All police officers from Fairfield, Fairfield Township and Hamilton responded.

The Butler County START team is also activated to help.
