The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was honored last week by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad) for advancing sustainability reporting and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The committee, along with three others, was awarded the ISAR 2022 honors in the national category during a ceremony on November 2 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, beating out 45 other organizations from other countries.
Unctad has endorsed workshops, training, seminars and partnerships organized by the Securities and Exchange Commission to raise awareness, advance knowledge and build capacity in the field of sustainability reporting and the Sustainable Development Goals following the 2019 release of the Sustainability Reporting Guidelines for Listed Companies. Reporting on their ESG impacts increased to about 91 percent of the total number of listed companies in 2020 from 22 percent before 2019. Last year it rose to 95 percent.
“The SEC of the Philippines has since been active in implementing its sustainability guidelines with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals at their core,” SEC President Emilio Aquino said during the ceremony.
He added, “We have partnered with key stakeholders and are conducting several capacity building programs that rely on sustainability as a way of life and a way forward towards a more sustainable future.”
