About 300 people gathered for a rally in New York City on Sunday on the 50th anniversary of Roe V. Wade’s landmark ruling recognizing the right to abortion, nearly a year after it was overturned by the US Supreme Court.
About 300 people gathered for a rally in New York City on Sunday on the 50th anniversary of Roe V. Wade’s landmark ruling recognizing the right to abortion, nearly a year after it was overturned by the US Supreme Court.
“Today we are mourning a constitutional loss (…) but I am not discouraged or deterred, the fight is not over,” says the Black Women’s Movement founder and protest organizer.
Abortion supporters also rallied in their thousands in many cities across the country to demand protection of reproductive rights.
Dozens of Republican-ruled states have implemented blanket abortion bans, and several others are seeking to do the same. But these moves were met with gains on the other side.
Some Democratic-led states have taken steps to protect patients and providers from lawsuits arising in states where the procedure is prohibited.
